Preview: Norwich City vs. Coventry City - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Championship clash between Norwich City and Coventry City, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Norwich City will be aiming to retain top spot in the Championship when they host Coventry City on Saturday.

The Canaries beat Stoke City 3-2 in midweek – their third successive victory – while the Sky Blues were 1-0 winners over Cardiff City.

Emiliano Buendia's calm finish and a brace from Teemu Pukki put Norwich 3-0 up against Stoke, but it was a nervy end to the game as the Potters pulled two back and Buendia was sent off after receiving a second yellow card.

Supporters will also have been worried to see goalkeeper Tim Krul go off injured just before half time considering how valuable the Dutchman is to the side.

Nonetheless, to come away with maximum points from recent games against Stoke, Middlesbrough and Swansea City – all promotion rivals – is a big statement of intent from Daniel Farke's side.

The Canaries are in fine form and have not lost in their last nine games – the current longest unbeaten run in the division. Having reached the Championship summit for the first time last weekend, they will not be knocked off their perch easily.

Coventry will also be in a buoyant mood after their victory over Cardiff on Wednesday lifted them three points clear of the relegation zone.

Tyler Walker's second-half goal proved decisive as the Sky Blues, who have conceded the most goals in the Championship, kept a second consecutive clean sheet.

However, Coventry have picked up just one point from their six away games so far this season and are the only side in the Championship yet to win on the road.

Mark Robins's men also have not won back to back games since their promotion to the second tier, and Carrow Road is arguably one of the hardest places to try to end that record.

This will be the first league encounter between the two sides since the 2010-11 season, but they did meet in the League Cup in 2016 when Norwich won 6-1.

Team News

Tim Krul's injury means that Michael McGovern will start in goal for a league match for the first time in over a year.

Teemu Pukki was taken off with a hamstring strain against Stoke and misses Saturday's match as a result.

There will also be no Emi Buendia, who is suspended after his red card and likely to be replaced by Przemyslaw Placheta.

Coventry will also have to call on their second-choice keeper Ben Wilson after Marko Marosi suffered a fractured cheekbone in a late collision against Cardiff.

Sam McCallum is ineligible to play against his parent club, so Ryan Giles could play at left-back with Callum O'Hare coming in to play on the wing.

Norwich City possible starting lineup:
McGovern; Aarons, Hanley, Gibson, Sorensen; Skipp, Rupp; Stiepermann, Vrancic, Martin; Placheta

Coventry City possible starting lineup:
Wilson; Dabo, Hyam, McFadzean, Giles; Sheaf, Kelly; O'Hare, Hamer, Shipley; Walker

We say: Norwich City 3-1 Coventry City

Despite missing several key players, Norwich are in fantastic form and a Coventry side with a poor away record should not pose them much of a threat. With understudies playing in goal for both teams, keep an eye out for any howlers.
