How Norwich City could line up for their first game back

Sports Mole looks at how Norwich City could line up for their first match back after lockdown, when they are expected to face Southampton.

Norwich City will head into their encounter with Southampton sitting six points adrift of safety in the Premier League standings.

Although the Canaries have reached the FA Cup quarter-finals, losing three of their most recent four league fixtures leaves Daniel Farke's team in desperate need of points.

However, the German will take confidence from his team's performances of late, including the narrow defeat at Sheffield United before football was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Here, Sports Mole predicts how the East Anglian team could line up against the Saints in a game scheduled for between June 19 and June 21.

On the fitness front, Norwich have it better than some of their rivals with only Sam Byram currently out of contention for the return fixture.

The right-back had initially been ruled out for the campaign with a thigh injury, but the Englishman should be available later in the run-in.

Despite the disappointment at Bramall Lane on March 7, there is every chance that Farke could opt to name the same starting lineup.

That performance came on the back of overcoming Tottenham Hotspur after extra time and penalties in the FA Cup, meaning that positives would have been taken from their application against physically-demanding opponents.

Of the players who featured on the substitutes' bench on that occasion, Mario Vrancic and Marco Stiepermann will feel that they have a case to earn a spot in central midfield.

Winger Onel Hernandez is pushing for a place in the squad after recovering from knee surgery in February.
