Head coach Michael O'Neill signs a new four-year contract with Northern Ireland.

Northern Ireland head coach Michael O'Neill has agreed a contract extension.

The 46-year-old has been widely lauded after he guided the team to qualification for this summer's European Championships in France, which will be Ireland's first appearance at a major tournament in 30 years.

Such a feat has now been rewarded in the form of a new four-year contract.

"I am extremely proud to be manager of Northern Ireland and I have thoroughly enjoyed the role over the past four years," he said in a statement.

"I am therefore pleased to have signed this new long-term contract with the stability that it brings to me, the staff and the players. We are all now looking forward to Euro 2016 and the chance to create more history this summer."

O'Neill has been in charge of Norn Iron since February 2012.
