Michael O'Neill hails the performance of Conor Washington in Northern Ireland's 1-0 win against Slovenia.

Northern Ireland coach Michael O'Neill has praised the performance of young striker Conor Washington after he helped the Boys in Green to a slender win against Slovenia.

The Peterborough United frontman scored the solitary goal at Windsor Park as Norn Iron extended their unbeaten international run to ten games.

Speaking after the game, O'Neill refused to confirm if Washington had done enough to earn a place at Euro 2016, but admitted that the youngster had given himself a chance.

He told BBC Sport: "He's a raw striker. He's come on the international stage and showed what he can do. He made a goal out of nothing and it's a great night for him.

"He's strong enough to fight against centre-backs and is particularly good in those inside channels.

"It would be unfair to say if he's on the flight to France. He's done himself no harm at all, not only in the performance, but how he's fitted in with the group. It looks like he's going to be an asset to us."

Northern Ireland get their Euro 2016 campaign underway against Poland on June 12.
