Outgoing Manchester United defender Daley Blind says that the time is right "to go home" after finalising a return to former club Ajax.

Daley Blind has thanked Manchester United supporters for "four great years" after officially bringing an end to his time at Old Trafford.

The Netherlands international was pushed towards the exit by Jose Mourinho and has now joined Ajax in a deal thought to be worth £18.5m.

Blind played in both the 2016 FA Cup final and the following year's Europa League final victory over Ajax, while also racking up 90 Premier League appearances for the club.

Taking to Twitter on Tuesday morning following the confirmation of his return to the Johan Cruyff Arena, the 28-year-old said: "First of all I want to say how proud I am to be a part of the Manchester United family.

"To play for the biggest club in the world with such a history meant a lot to me. I had 4 great years with 4 trophies. I want to thank everyone, the Managers, coaches, the medical department, everyone who helped me to settle in so quick at the beginning, of course my teammates and last but definitely not least the fans!

"I want to thank you for all the love and support I received and still get. I will never forget some of the special games and moments, I will miss you 'The Theatre of Dreams'! But now it's time to go home."

Blind, who made just four top-flight starts under Mourinho last time out, has signed a four-year deal with Ajax.
