Edinson Cavani will don the famous number seven jersey at Manchester United, a shirt worn by the likes of David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo at Old Trafford.

Manchester United new boy Edinson Cavani has been handed the iconic number seven jersey at Old Trafford following his last-minute arrival in England.

The 33-year-old joined the Red Devils as a free agent on deadline day following his departure from Paris Saint-Germain, with Cavani penning a two-year deal at Old Trafford.

Now, Man United have announced that the Uruguay international will don the famous '7' during his time with the Red Devils - a shirt that has been sported by some of United's most celebrated players down the years.

George Best, David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo and Eric Cantona have all done the shirt justice at Old Trafford, although more recent wearers of the jersey have not enjoyed such success with the 20-time English champions.

Memphis Depay, Angel Di Maria and Alexis Sanchez - the latter of whom was the most recent player to sport the number seven shirt at United - all endured underwhelming stints at Old Trafford.

The iconic '7' was reportedly going to be offered to Jadon Sancho originally, but the Borussia Dortmund man ultimately stayed put in Germany following a protracted transfer saga.
