Producers of Best Home Cook are reportedly at a crossroads over how best to proceed with the new series.

Producers of BBC cooking competition Best Home Cook are reportedly "having a nightmare" figuring out how to keep the show safe for judge Mary Berry to take part.

At the age of 85, Berry is considered at heightened risk of catching coronavirus, which has now killed more than 600,000 people worldwide.

Best Home Cook is due to begin filming its first celebrity edition next month and according to The Sun, producers are looking at either delaying production to allow the cast and crew to quarantine together - as has happened with Channel 4's Great British Bake Off - or introducing social distancing measures on set.

"The BBC wants to ensure the set is as safe as possible for everyone, but obviously Mary is a particular concern given her age," a source told the newspaper.

"Taking the same steps as Bake Off may seem like the obvious option. But holding up the start of filming is also a risk because all TV production could stop again if there is a second spike in infections. It's a difficult balance to strike."

The series is expected to air on BBC One later this year.
