A report in Portugal claims that Sporting Lisbon are planning to activate the £8m release clause in Andros Townsend's Newcastle United contract.

Newcastle United winger Andros Townsend is reportedly a summer transfer target of Sporting Lisbon.

It has been widely claimed that the England international can leave the Magpies for just £8m following their relegation to the Championship.

His father recently hinted that the 24-year-old was prepared to continue his career on Tyneside.

However, according to Record, Sporting are eager to entice Townsend to make the switch to Portugal.

The report adds that Queens Park Rangers midfielder Sandro, who spent the second half of last season on loan with West Bromwich Albion, is also a target of the Primeira Liga club.
