Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez reportedly holds talks with Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola over a possible move to the club this summer.

Newcastle United manager Rafael Benitez has reportedly held talks with Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola regarding a move to St James' Park this summer.

Rob Elliot, Karl Darlow and Martin Dubravka all had spells as Newcastle's number one keeper during the 2017-18 campaign, with the latter impressing during his 10 appearances since his January loan move from Sparta Prague.

The Magpies are understood to be interested in making Dubravka's switch permanent in a £5m deal, but France Football reports that they are also exploring alternative options such as Areola.

Benitez is alleged to have been in contact with Areola on a number of occasions this season and could make an approach of around £15m when the transfer window reopens.

PSG are thought to be willing to sell the 25-year-old, despite Areola making 42 first-team appearances for the club this season.

The Ligue 1 champions are likely to be in the market for a new shot-stopper themselves, although Newcastle could face competition for Areola's signature from the likes of Napoli and Crystal Palace.
