Newcastle United goalkeeper Tim Krul has joined Ajax on a season-long loan after signing a contract extension at St James' Park.

The 28-year-old was limited to just eight Premier League starts last season due to an ACL injury which he suffered in October, and was unable to prevent his side being relegated to the Championship.

Krul is still recovering from that injury, but will look to return to first-team action in the Eredivisie with Ajax for the 2016-17 campaign.

The Netherlands international's future remains with the Magpies, though, after he signed a one-year contract extension at the club that will keep him there until 2018.

Krul has been with Newcastle since 2005 and established himself as the club's first-choice keeper in 2011, going on to make 185 appearances in all competitions.
