Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic says that he has respect for manager Rafael Benitez, despite the Serbian impressing at Fulham.

Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic has said that he has respect for manager Rafael Benitez, despite the Serbian impressing at Fulham after his loan switch in January.

The forward, a rare sight for the Magpies before the turn of the year, has scored seven goals in nine games for the Cottagers to add fuel to the club's Premier League promotion push.

Mitrovic, currently on international duty, told reporters that he feels "comfortable" with his current setup in West London.

"I respect Rafael Benitez's decision not to play me and now I feel comfortable playing Fulham," the 23-year-old said. "I'm hoping that it will last.

"Every gathering and every match – and even friendlies – is a chance for me, it's a new fight for a place in the team and I'm going to try and doing my best. Then the selector decides.

"God's will is that I wear a black and white jersey. I'm glad of that, I feel fine in this shirt."

Fulham are third in the Championship table, seven points behind the automatic promotion places.
