How Netherlands could line up against Mexico

Sports Mole looks at how the Netherlands could line up for Wednesday's international friendly against Mexico.

The Netherlands head into their international friendly against Mexico on Wednesday evening with a new manager in the dugout.

After Ronald Koeman opted to return to club management with Barcelona, legendary defender Frank de Boer was quickly selected as his replacement.

While the upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures with Bosnia-Herzegovina and Italy will take priority, De Boer has a chance to assess his squad against El Tri later this week.

Here, Sports Mole predicts how the Netherlands could line up against opponents whom they last played in 2014.

Despite possessing a desire to field his strongest XI, De Boer must take into consideration the individual circumstances of several of his key men.

Captain Virgil van Dijk started three matches for Liverpool last week, leaving it likely that the centre-back will be rested for this contest.

Memphis Depay could also be named among the replacements at a time when he has been left to resolve his future on the club scene.

Nathan Ake and Daley Blind could line up in the middle of the backline, with AZ defender Owen Wijndal being provided with a debut at left-back.

Club teammate Teun Koopmeiners may also make his first senior outing for Netherlands after several key players represented their clubs on Sunday.

With Luuk de Jong having played for Sevilla against Barcelona on Sunday night, Donyell Malen is in line to get the nod down the middle of the attack.

Donny van de Beek will almost certainly start on Wednesday evening having been provided with limited game time by Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
