New Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman challenges Feyenoord striker Robin van Persie to remain fit and earn a place in his next squad.

Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman has revealed that the door has not yet closed on Feyenoord striker Robin van Persie's international career.

The 34-year-old has not featured for Oranje since last August and is not part of their latest squad for friendlies against England and Portugal.

After returning to boyhood club Feyenoord at the start of the year, however, and scoring four times in eight Eredivisie outings, Koeman is not ruling out a future recall for Van Persie.

"I was at Feyenoord and I also thought it necessary to speak to Robin what he thought of the Dutch national team," he told reporters at Monday's press conference.

"He has not said he will stop at Orange, but he will first have to be completely fit. He once again showed his class on Sunday, and I do not say no in advance."

Van Persie boasts a record of 50 goals in 102 appearances for the Netherlands at senior level.
