Result: Wijnaldum, Narsingh goals fire Netherlands to victory against Latvia

Netherlands earn a crucial 2-0 win over Latvia in their clash in Riga to get their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign back on track.

Goals from Georginio Wijnaldum and Luciano Narsingh have fired Netherlands to a 2-0 victory over Latvia in their Euro 2016 qualifier this evening.

Guus Hiddink's men pressed forward in the early stages of the game and Narsingh should have fired his side ahead when he latched on to Wesley Sneijder's through-ball, but he put his first-time shot wide of the post.

Netherlands came within inches of taking the lead when Memphis Depay teed up Sneijder on the edge of the box, but the midfielder's curling effort smashed off the post and bounced clear.

The Oranje threatened once more as Klaas-Jan Huntelaar did well to work the ball back to Robin van Persie on the edge of the penalty area, but the forward's strike was straight at Andrejs Vanins.

Jetro Willems nearly broke the deadlock for the visitors as he raided forward from left-back to drill a low strike at goal, but Vanins was equal to the shot to make the vital save and keep the scores level.

After the break, Netherlands went close yet again as Sneijder scuffed a volley at goal which fell kindly into the path of Depay, but he could only guide his header over the bar.

Hiddink's men continued to threaten and substitute Wijnaldum almost handed them the lead when he directed a header towards the bottom corner, but Vanins was there once more to make the save.

However, Wijnaldum did hand his side the lead minutes later when he pounced on Sneijder's deflected shot and managed to turn Vitalijs Maksimenko before firing past Vanins from close range.

Netherlands doubled their advantage when Daley Blind played Narsingh through on goal, and the winger managed to maintain his composure to slot the ball past Vanins into the net.

Sneijder came close to adding to the scoreline, but he was unable to find the net as the visitors secured the win with ease to get their qualifying campaign back on track.
