Middlesbrough want to re-sign Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole this summer to boost their squad for the new Premier League season, according to a report.

Newly-promoted Premier League club Middlesbrough are reportedly interested in re-signing Lee Cattermole this summer.

The 28-year-old came through the academy at Boro and represented their first team between 2005 and 2008, before making the move to Wigan Athletic.

Now with Sunderland, the defensive midfielder has made 153 Premier League appearances in the last seven seasons.

Despite appearing in 23 of Sunderland's 38 league games last term, it is understood that he could be made available for transfer this summer and according to the Daily Mail, Middlesbrough are preparing a £5m move.

Cattermole made 91 appearances for Middlesbrough between 2005 and 2008.
