Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claims that his Manchester United players are playing for their future at the club after their 3-1 loss at Old Trafford against Manchester City.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said that many of his team are playing for their future at Manchester United after watching his side lose 3-1 to Manchester City in the first leg of their EFL Cup semi-final.

Goals from Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez and an Andreas Pereira own goal saw City 3-0 ahead by half time at Old Trafford, with Marcus Rashford able to pull one back for the home side in the second period.

After the game, Solskjaer told his press conference: "I think every player is playing for his future at the biggest clubs, you have to perform and you have got to do well.

"We all have different roles in it, at a different age you have got more influence behind the scenes as well to be one of the main characters. Both on and off the pitch, everyone here has a lot to play for."

Ashley Young is one player that will be out of contract in the summer, while Nemanja Matic has been linked with a move away from the club this January.

Jesse Lingard has also entered the final 18 months of his contract and was criticised by his manager over Christmas for his use of social media.
