Manchester United's Wayne Rooney moves a step closer to rejoining Everton after agreeing personal terms, with just a medical left to come before finalising a move.

Wayne Rooney has arrived on Merseyside to undergo a medical with Everton ahead of his transfer from Manchester United, according to a report.

The 31-year-old is deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford after 13 years' service, being allowed to rejoin his boyhood club on a free contract.

Sky Sports News reports that Rooney, who started just 15 Premier League games for United last season, has agreed personal terms with the Toffees and will likely put pen to paper in the next 24 hours.

It was reported on Friday that the England international has been asked to reduce his wage demands, which he has agreed to in order to prevent the saga dragging into pre-season.

Everton will allow Romelu Lukaku to complete his £75m switch to Old Trafford as part of the deal, with that transfer also expected to be finalised at some point this weekend.
