Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho reportedly decides to keep England centre-back Phil Jones ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho will reportedly keep Phil Jones this summer, despite suggestions that the England international was heading for the Old Trafford exit ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.

Jones, 25, joined Man United from Blackburn Rovers in the summer of 2011, and the versatile defender has made 168 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils, landing one Premier League title, one FA Cup and one Europa League trophy in the process.

It had been claimed that the arrival of Victor Lindelof from Benfica would see Jones leave Old Trafford, but according to The Sun, Mourinho views the former Blackburn defender as a potential key part of his squad for next season.

The same report, however, claims that Mourinho will consider offers for Chris Smalling this summer after deciding that he only needs one of the two English centre-backs for the 2017-18 campaign.

Injuries restricted Jones to just 18 Premier League starts last term, although he formed an impressive centre-back partnership with Marcos Rojo in the middle part of the season.
