Gary Neville has insisted that Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must be granted the funds to spend money on transfers over the January transfer window.

The Norwegian came under heavy pressure over the weekend following a 3-3 draw with Sheffield United that left United ninth in the Premier League table.

Reports state that United are targeting a striker ahead of January, with Erling Braut Haaland said to be a key target.

Speaking on the subject of United in the January window, Neville told Sky Sports News: "Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has to go and spend the club's money in January for himself.

"He has to spend on two or three experienced players, he must demand it. Those young lads, he's not going to be there to see the fruits of the labour he's putting in the foundations that he's laying.

"There's a lot of good, young players out on that pitch that I enjoy watching but unless they get experienced players around them, they'll not see the standard and won't see the maturity."

It is claimed that United are also keeping a close eye on English duo Jadon Sancho and James Maddison ahead of the upcoming window.
