Manchester United are reportedly considering the possibility of bringing former striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic back to the club on loan in January.

Manchester United are reportedly considering an approach to bring Zlatan Ibrahimovic back to the club on loan in January.

Ibrahimovic scored 28 goals in 46 appearances for United during his one full season at the club, helping them to the EFL Cup and Europa League titles but seeing his campaign curtailed by a serious knee ligament injury.

The 37-year-old's United career never truly recovered from that setback, making only seven appearances the following season before seeing his contract terminated in March of this year.

However, Ibrahimovic is now back to full fitness with Los Angeles Galaxy, where he has scored 21 goals in just 25 outings, and ESPN reports that United are considering a surprise return for the veteran.

United have endured a tumultuous start to the 2018-19 campaign, resulting in fierce speculation over manager Jose Mourinho's future, and the report suggests that the Portuguese could turn to a short-term deal for Ibrahimovic in a bid to steady the ship.

Mourinho believes that Ibrahimovic could still help the team on the pitch, but would also be a major asset in the dressing room amid allegations of numerous fallouts between the players and manager.

Ibrahimovic and Mourinho had previously worked together at Inter Milan before reuniting at Old Trafford in 2016.
