Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is reportedly edging towards signing a new long-term contract at Old Trafford.

Goalkeeper David de Gea has reportedly edged closer to penning a new contract with Manchester United.

De Gea has been at Old Trafford since 2011, but it has recently been suggested that the Spain international is contemplating his future at the Premier League giants.

However, according to Manchester Evening News journalist Ciaran Kelly, United have been left 'optimistic' that the 28-year-old will soon commit himself to the club for the next stage of his career.

The report claims that De Gea has been left boosted by recent support from the club's fans at a time when United have struggled on the pitch, while De Gea's partner Edurne has also relocated to Manchester.

De Gea's current deal expires in the summer, but United have the option to extend that by a further year should the goalkeeper not pen fresh terms.

Manager Jose Mourinho has recently claimed that De Gea is keen to remain at the club.
