Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge hints that he is open to re-signing Bastian Schweinsteiger from Manchester United.

Bayern Munich chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has hinted that the club would welcome back Manchester United outcast Bastian Schweinsteiger.

Manager Jose Mourinho opted against including the German World Cup winner in his 25-man training squad, suggesting that the 32-year-old is free to leave Old Trafford.

Schweinsteiger joined United in the summer of 2015 after spending 17 successful years at Bayern, where he won eight Bundesliga crowns and the Champions League.

"Should [Schweinsteiger] speak in the future at some point about a desire to return then we will discuss it with him," Bild quotes Rummenigge as saying.

The midfielder is believed to be training with United's reserve team.
