Liverpool will be looking to avoid starting the calendar year with back-to-back league defeats for the first time since 1993 when they face Manchester United.

Liverpool will be looking to avoid starting the calendar year with back-to-back league defeats for the first time since 1993 when they welcome Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds, who have already dropped 18 Premier League points this season, currently sit third in the table, three points behind leaders United, with the Red Devils eyeing their first success at Anfield since January 2016.

Liverpool suffered a 1-0 defeat to Southampton in their last league match on January 4, with Danny Ings scoring the only goal of the contest at St Mary's.

The Merseyside giants will now be looking to avoid starting a calendar year with back-to-back losses for the first time since 1993.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has not actually lost successive league games as a head coach since April 2015, when he was still in charge of Borussia Dortmund.

Liverpool recorded a 2-0 victory over United in the corresponding match last season, while they have not lost to the Red Devils since March 2018.
