Manchester United team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Manchester City

Sports Mole rounds up all of Manchester United's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Sunday's derby with Manchester City in the Premier League.

Manchester United will be desperate to spoil Pep Guardiola's party when they travel to the Etihad Stadium to take on bitter rivals Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side extended their unbeaten away run to 21 matches against Crystal Palace, but it was not a performance worth writing home about as they played out a goalless stalemate with the Eagles at Selhurst Park.

United have now registered three consecutive 0-0 draws in all competitions, and as much as they would love to get one over Man City, they are travelling to a record-breaking side aiming to win their 22nd game on the bounce.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up all of Man United's injury and suspension news ahead of the derby.

Edinson Cavani

Status: Out
Type of injury: Muscle
Possible return date: Unknown

Edinson Cavani returned to action against Crystal Palace but has reportedly suffered another muscular problem. The forward was not pictured arriving at the team hotel, suggesting that he will play no part in this derby.

Paul Pogba

Status: Out
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: March 14 (vs. West Ham United)

Paul Pogba has been in the treatment room since sustaining a thigh problem against Everton last month, and Solskjaer has conceded that the Frenchman had not returned to team training before the Palace clash, so it is difficult to see him being ready for Sunday.

David de Gea

Status: Out
Type of injury: Personal
Possible return date: Unknown

David de Gea was a surprise omission from the matchday squad in midweek, and it has now been revealed that the Spanish goalkeeper travelled back home for the birth of his child, so De Gea will not be involved this weekend either.

Anthony Martial

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: March 7 (vs. Man City)

Anthony Martial not making the cut on Wednesday was another surprise, and Solskjaer revealed that the striker missed out after sustaining a knock to his knee during training. The Red Devils manager hopes to have Martial back for the derby, but he is a major doubt at the time of writing.

Donny van de Beek

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Muscle
Possible return date: March 7 (vs. Man City)

Donny van de Beek returned to the bench against Chelsea but did not travel to Selhurst Park as he is still nursing a minor injury. The former Ajax man could return for Sunday's derby, but whether he would feature is another question entirely.

Victor Lindelof

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Back
Possible return date: March 7 (vs. Man City)

Victor Lindelof continues to struggle with an ongoing back problem and was benched for the trip to Palace, but Solskjaer has nonetheless expressed optimism over his chances of being involved this weekend.

Juan Mata

Status: Out
Type of injury: Unspecified
Possible return date: March 14 (vs. West Ham)

Solskjaer confirmed at the end of February that Juan Mata would be sidelined for a "couple of weeks" with an unspecified problem, so the experienced playmaker will not feature against Man City.

Phil Jones

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Phil Jones continues to recuperate from his long-term knee injury, and while Solskjaer has expressed hope that the defender could play again before the season is over, he may not be ready until the start of the 2021-22 campaign.

MANCHESTER UNITED'S SUSPENSION LIST

Man United have no players suspended for Sunday's derby.
