How Manchester United could line up against Arsenal

Sports Mole looks at how Manchester United could line up for the New Year's Day showdown with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium as Paul Pogba pushes for a recall.

Manchester United begin the new decade with a visit to one of their oldest Premier League rivals when they take on Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on New Year's Day.

The Red Devils strung together back-to-back wins at the end of 2019 to close the gap on the Champions League places to just four points and are now looking to make it three consecutive victories for the first time in almost a year.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side will fancy their chances against an Arsenal team with just one win in 15 too, with United able to inflict a fifth straight home defeat on the Gunners.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how the visitors could line up for the contest.

United are expected to welcome Paul Pogba back into their starting XI after the Frenchman sat out against Burnley on Saturday, having only recently returned from a lengthy injury absence.

A number of other players are on the verge of making comebacks from a long time on the sidelines too, although this match will come too soon for the likes of Marcos Rojo, Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah.

Scott McTominay remains absent with a knee problem but there should be some rotation from Solskjaer as he looks to keep his squad fresh, with the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Luke Shaw and Mason Greenwood pushing for recalls.

Saturday's FA Cup third-round tie with Wolverhampton Wanderers is a more likely chance to rest some of the really key players, though, meaning that in-form attacking duo Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are likely to continue.

The pair have 19 Premier League goals between them this season, with both once again getting on the scoresheet during the win over Burnley to see out 2019.
