Manchester United's Robin van Persie ruled out of Swansea City opener

Louis van Gaal confirms that Robin van Persie has "no chance" of being fit for tomorrow's Premier League opener against Swansea City.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed that Robin van Persie will play no part in tomorrow's Premier League opening match against Swansea City.

The Dutchman was given extended holiday after helping guide the Netherlands to third place at the World Cup in Brazil earlier this summer.

At the start of the month, Van Gaal claimed that the striker would not be fit enough to begin the campaign and that remains the case.

The former Netherlands boss told reporters in this afternoon's press conference that Van Persie has "no chance" of featuring at Old Trafford tomorrow because he "has to train".

Sam Johnstone, Antonio Valencia, Jonny Evans and Danny Welbeck have also all been ruled out of the encounter due to injuries, while Luke Shaw will be on the sidelines for around one month with a hamstring strain.
