Former Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal believes that Marcus Rashford could head for the Old Trafford exit door at some point in his playing career.

Rashford has started the season in prolific form and already boasts 12 goals and five assists for the Red Devils this season, with the club supposedly keen to tie him down to a lucrative new deal.

Van Gaal was at the helm when an 18-year-old Rashford burst onto the scene in 2016, and while the Dutchman has hailed Rashford's off-the-pitch endeavours, he thinks that the forward is not guaranteed to stay at United for the whole of his career.

In quotes attributed to The Mirror, Van Gaal said: "I admire him for being such an honest and pure guy. He comes from an area where things are tough.

"And the way he is fighting for less privileged kids is wonderful. He does a lot of stuff for the community. He is a great lad.

"I enjoyed listening to him when he said he hopes to play at United for a long, long time. But I listened carefully. And he did not say he would never play for another club."

Rashford has found the back of the net 79 times for the Red Devils since his debut, with the 23-year-old contracted to the club until 2023 with the option of a further year.
