Marcus Rashford sheds light on the reason behind his impressive penalty record at Manchester United.

Marcus Rashford has spoken of how the mantra of sticking to the basics has helped him take penalties at Manchester United.

The 21-year-old netted the winning goal from the spot during United's 1-0 win over Leicester City to recover from hitting the woodwork from 12 yards against Crystal Palace prior to the international break.

Rashford, who now has three goals this season, also netted the club's opening goal of the 2019-20 campaign via the penalty spot in the 4-0 win over Chelsea.

Speaking to MUTV after the win over Leicester, Rashford said: "There has been a lot of talk (about penalties) but it is all about clearing that out of your head and just getting back down to basics.

"When it comes down to it, that is all you know, to get to the first team, it is by doing the basics and working hard.

"I just try to look at the keeper, especially a keeper like him because he has a good jump and likes to go early. If it is not hard and in the corner, then he has a chance of saving it. But it was a nice feeling to score."

The Englishman also famously scored with virtually the last kick of the game to hand United a famous 3-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the Parc des Princes last season.

Interestingly enough, Rashford's first senior penalty was taken during England's penalty shootout victory over Colombia in the World Cup last year - a thumping effort into the top left corner.
