Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has revealed that the challenge of restoring the club to their former glories was a major reason why he chose to return to Old Trafford.
Pogba initially left United in 2012 due to a lack of first-team football before returning last summer having helped Juventus to four consecutive Serie A titles, back-to-back Italian Cups and the Champions League final during his time in Turin.
United were not in the Champions League at the time of Pogba's return, but having helped the club to the Community Shield, EFL Cup and Europa League last season, the France international believes that they are on the right track towards becoming a major force once again.
"[Returning] was a big challenge for me. I knew that I wouldn't play Champions League and I say to myself 'I want Manchester United to be the Manchester United they were back in the day'," he told reporters.
"I think we are on the way. We won three trophies last season, we're back in the Champions League. The team is improving a lot again, so I hope that we are going to continue that way and improve."
Pogba will be back in the Champions League next season due to United's Europa League triumph last term.
