Manchester United and Jose Mourinho "should be a good combination", according to former Red Devils defender John O'Shea.

Former Manchester United defender John O'Shea has tipped Jose Mourinho to thrive at Old Trafford.

Mourinho is expected to be confirmed as Man United's new head coach before the end of the week, replacing Louis van Gaal, who was sacked after two seasons with the Premier League club.

O'Shea, who represented the Red Devils between 1999 and 2011, has claimed that Man United and Mourinho "should be a good combination".

"I think he's got a fantastic record and he's going to a fantastic club. It should be a good combination," O'Shea, who now represents Sunderland, told reporters while on international duty with Republic of Ireland.

O'Shea, 35, won 15 trophies during his time at Old Trafford.
