Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho admits that he was never concerned about spoiling Manchester City's title celebrations in the local derby.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has downplayed the significance of his side's 3-2 victory over local rivals Manchester City.

The Red Devils came from two down at the Etihad Stadium to delay their neighbours' title celebrations, but the Portuguese coach said that the result merely represents another three points in their battle for the runners-up spot.

"I think mathematically we need six points to stay in the top four and this win is part of that tonight," he told Sky Sports News.

"Our challenge is to finish second but I want to congratulate City for the title because they are going to win and deservedly. They gave no chance to the others because they had this season of don't stop winning.

"My objective here was to get points and not spoil any celebrations. The point is can we improve enough to catch them next season?"

United found themselves trailing to goals from Vincent Kompany and Ilkay Gundogan at the interval, but a second-half double from Paul Pogba and Chris Smalling's late winner saw them complete a dramatic comeback.
