Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho reportedly held a meeting with Liverpool outcast Mario Balotelli.

The controversial striker is believed to have been told by Reds boss Jurgen Klopp to search for a new club because he does not figure in the German's plans.

Balotelli joined during Brendan Rodgers's reign at Liverpool in the summer of 2014, but struggled to make his mark, which resulted in a loan return to AC Milan in the 2015-16 season.

Klopp took charge at Anfield in October and it is clear that Balotelli no longer has a place in the team as he was not included in the club's pre-season tour of the United States.

According to Calciomercato, Mourinho had an 'informal meeting' with Balotelli, telling him that he needs to improve his attitude in order to be successful in the game.

The report adds that Mourinho, who was appointed United boss earlier this summer, has no intention of offering Balotelli a lifeline at Old Trafford.

The pair worked together briefly at Inter Milan, where Balotelli spent three years of his career before moves to Manchester City, AC Milan and Liverpool.
