Paris Saint-Germain manager Laurent Blanc emerges as a contender to replace Louis van Gaal at Manchester United.

Laurent Blanc has emerged as a surprise contender to take over from Louis van Gaal at Manchester United, according to a report.

The Dutchman's tenure at Old Trafford has been the source of speculation for most of the season, with the United board widely expected to relieve Van Gaal from his post this summer.

Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is the frontrunner for the role, with United assistant manager Ryan Giggs also in the running, but now Blanc has entered the fray, the Daily Star says.

The Frenchman, who had a stint at United as a player between 2001 and 2003, has enjoyed a superb season with Paris Saint-Germain, who lead Ligue 1 by 22 points after just one defeat all season.

Blanc's side can wrap up the Ligue 1 title in record time if they defeat Troyes this afternoon.
