Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho says that he wants to create a "winning style" at the club when questioned over his footballing philosophy.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has said that he wants to develop a "winning style" at the club.

Mourinho's approach to matches has often been criticised since his arrival at Old Trafford, with many fans and pundits suggesting that it is too negative for a team of United's quality and stature.

Questions over the Portuguese's future at the club have even been raised on the issue - and were only exacerbated by last weekend's 3-2 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion - but Mourinho insists that the priority for him is always to get the win.

When asked how he wants his United side to play, Mourinho told reporters: "Winning style. A winning style. Don't make defensive mistakes. Be dominant. Chances, score goals and go home with the three points.

"The supporters were fantastic in both matches. Not for me, for the team, which is the only thing that matters. In my career I was never selfish, never thinking about myself, I was always a club man and that's what I am. So, I am really happy when the supporters support the team.

"Against Leicester, you can say in a normal situation because the team was playing well and was winning. To be supportive of the team against Brighton, where we didn't play well and lost the match, it gives you a fantastic feeling. I hope that feeling, the players also feel it and the players are ready to give them everything they have."

United will look to bounce back from their defeat at the Amex when they host Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Monday night.
