Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has paid tribute to Paul Pogba after the Frenchman impressed during his second Manchester United debut on Friday night.

Pogba returned to Old Trafford for a world-record fee from Juventus this summer and played the full 90 minutes as Man United recorded a 2-0 victory over Southampton in the Premier League.

Carragher has claimed that the 23-year-old looked like "the best kid in the playground" as he operated in both a defensive and attacking position during Jose Mourinho's first home game in charge of the Red Devils.

"Pogba was all over the pitch. He was an old-fashioned midfielder, he covered every blade of grass. It was like watching the best kid in the playground. At times that might hurt Man United, but the ability he has and freedom he has, he reminds me of a number 10. There is no doubt that his talent was on show," Carragher told Sky Sports News.

Pogba joined Man United as a highly-rated teenager from Le Havre in 2009, but left for Juventus on a free transfer in 2012 after failing to agree a new contract with the English giants.

Jose Mourinho the manager of Chelsea looks on during the Capital One Cup fourth round match between Stoke City and Chelsea at the Britannia Stadium on October 27, 2015 in Stoke on Trent, England.
