Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera opens up on the team talk that inspired his side to a 3-2 win over Manchester City, led by Ashley Young and Michael Carrick.

Ander Herrera has revealed that a rousing half-time team talk from Ashley Young and Michael Carrick inspired Manchester United to their comeback win over Manchester City.

The Red Devils were a couple of goals down at the break and fortunate not to be completely out of the game, having been outclassed by their noisy neighbours.

A complete contrast followed in the second half, however, as Paul Pogba netted twice in quick succession and Chris Smalling volleyed home from close range to earn United a 3-2 victory.

Speaking after the match, Herrera talked up the part played by experienced heads Young and Carrick to inspire United to all three points.

"Everyone was talking but of course the oldest guys with the most experience - Ash, Mike - were in the dressing room," he told reporters. "They have power in their words. We just talked about the pride, about the club, this club - you can never underestimate it.

"We didn't talk too much about tactics, just about our pride. Our pride on the pitch and that our fans were going to have a difficult night if we got beaten. We did it for them and of course for us and our position in the league - but overall for them.

"I was thinking at half time that it was going to be difficult for our fans if we got beaten so I'm happy for them."

Herrera could be in trouble with the Football Association after allegedly spitting on a Man City crest near the tunnel area during the dramatic derby.
