Fred has insisted that he is more comfortable in midfield after Manchester United started playing three at the back under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

United, playing with a 4-2-3-1 system, entered the October international break two points above the relegation zone and with questions lingering over Solskjaer's future.

Since switching to a 3-4-1-2 setup, United performed impressively against Liverpool and recorded their first away win in 12 games against Partizan in the Europa League.

Speaking to Manchester Evening News ahead of the clash with Norwich City, Fred said: "As I said we did really well tactically on Sunday which was very important.

"For me I was quite relaxed. With five playing behind me it freed me up to play the way I like to play going forward a bit more.

"I was also really happy with the way I defended. The manager told me to focus, to play well, to minimise the errors and I think I did that well and defended well."

Fred, who moved to Old Trafford from Shakhtar Donetsk for a fee of £52m in 2018, has made 33 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils, scoring just once.
