A report claims that Manchester City coach Brian Kidd is to be lured back to Manchester United by Jose Mourinho, seven years after departing Old Trafford.

Brian Kidd will leave Manchester City in order to make a surprise return to rivals Manchester United, according to a report.

The 67-year-old spent a decade at Old Trafford in various coaching roles before taking up a position at City in 2009.

With Jose Mourinho now in charge at United, the Portuguese is said to be hopeful of bringing in an old face to provide a link with the side's past glories.

It is claimed by The Sun that Kidd is unsure what his role with the Citizens will be should he remain under the guidance of Pep Guardiola, but he was initially reluctant to switch allegiance.

Kidd was unhappy about the prospect of stepping on Ryan Giggs's toes and therefore rejected the Red Devils' initial approach, although with the Welshman now out of the picture a deal could be struck.

Giggs ended his 29-year association with United on Saturday in order to pursue other opportunities.
