Romelu Lukaku's record vs. Tottenham Hotspur

Ahead of Manchester United's Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur, Sports Mole looks at Romelu Lukaku's past record against the North Londoners.

Two title hopefuls will go head to head at Old Trafford on Saturday when Manchester United host Tottenham Hotspur, with only goal difference separating the teams in the table.

The match was poised to pit the Premier League's two leading goalscorers against each other, but Harry Kane has been ruled out with a hamstring injury to deal a major blow to Tottenham's hopes.

Romelu Lukaku is available for the home side, though, and having scored 10 goals in 12 appearances across all competitions this season, the Belgian will fancy his chances of getting on the scoresheet again this weekend.

However, after netting seven times in his opening seven Premier League games for the Red Devils, Lukaku has failed to hit the back of the net in his last two so he must overcome a mini drought if he is to score.

Here, Sports Mole looks back on his track record against Spurs during his time with West Bromwich Albion and Everton.

Lukaku's first meeting with Tottenham came during his loan spell at West Brom in the 2012-13 season, when he featured in both Premier League matches against Andre Villas-Boas's side.

The Belgian did not play the full 90 in either, though, coming off the bench just past the hour in a 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane before lasting only 52 minutes in a 1-0 defeat at The Hawthorns later that season.

Lukaku's luck against Tottenham did not improve much upon his move to Everton either, with the striker picking up an injury during the closing stages of his first game against Spurs for the Toffees - a 0-0 draw at Goodison Park.

The Belgium international did finally complete a full 90 minutes against Spurs in the 2014-15 season, but that ended in a 2-1 defeat at White Hart Lane as goals from Christian Eriksen and Roberto Soldado cancelled out Kevin Mirallas's opener.

Spurs did the double over Everton and Lukaku that season with a 1-0 win at Goodison Park, and the striker drew another blank the following season as the Toffees held on for a goalless draw at White Hart Lane in August 2015.

Lukaku finally made a direct contribution to a goal against Spurs later that season, setting up Aaron Lennon to score in a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park, with Dele Alli getting the equaliser for the visitors.

Lukaku went one better last term having missed the opening-day draw, finding the back of the net for the first time against the North Londoners in March - albeit in a 3-2 defeat at White Hart Lane.

Kane had earlier scored twice to put Tottenham in control before Lukaku gave Everton hope with a goal back 10 minutes from time, but stoppage-time strikes from Alli and then Enner Valencia ensured that Spurs would leave with the points.
