Manchester United legend Paul Scholes questions Jose Mourinho's criticism of his team following their 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has questioned Jose Mourinho's criticism of his players following their 2-0 FA Cup victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford this evening.

The Red Devils progressed through to the quarter-finals of the competition courtesy of goals from Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic, returning to winning ways following Tuesday's Champions League exit at the hands of Sevilla.

However, after the match Mourinho questioned the desire, quality and personality of many of his players following a display in which United scored with their only two shots on target.

"It's probably the worst thing you can feel as a player if your desire is being questioned, if your confidence has gone so much that you're hiding behind players. I don't think I saw a lot of that tonight," Scholes told BT Sport.

"I saw a lot of it on Tuesday night - it seemed like this interview should have been after Tuesday night, not tonight. They haven't entertained, we know that, and he's not very happy with how they've played. He did say he tried to get them to be more aggressive, more passes forward, but it didn't really feel like that."

United are not in action again until March 31, when they host Swansea City in the Premier League.
