Jose Mourinho plays down successful cup final record

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho plays down his record of 12 wins in 14 previous finals ahead of Saturday's meeting with Chelsea at Wembley Stadium.

Jose Mourinho has insisted that his past record in cup finals "has nothing to do" with Manchester United's showdown with Chelsea at Wembley Stadium.

United face their Premier League rivals in the 137th FA Cup final, aiming to lift a third major honour during Mourinho's two years at the helm.

The 55-year-old has won 12 of his previous 14 finals as a manager, including triumphs in the EFL Cup and Europa League last term, but he does not believe that it will have any sort of impact on Saturday's match.

"I think the winning mentality does not have to do with records or with history in finals," he told reporters on the eve of the game. "Honestly, I think what we did in the past has nothing to do with tomorrow.

"The records don't play, what plays is 11 v. 11 and everybody trying to give their best."

Saturday's clash is a repeat of the 2007 final, which Chelsea won 1-0 thanks to a goal in extra time from Didier Drogba.
