David de Gea apologised to his Manchester United teammates after making a huge mistake in Tuesday night's clash with Barcelona, according to a report.

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea reportedly apologised to his teammates after making a huge mistake in Tuesday night's 3-0 loss at Barcelona in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

De Gea allowed a Lionel Messi shot to squirm under his body in the 20th minute of the clash, which put Barca two goals ahead on the night and 3-0 on aggregate.

According to The Sun, the Spain international said sorry to his teammates in the dressing room at full-time, with the stopper 'inconsolable' following the high-profile mistake.

Philippe Coutinho went on to score a third for Barca, with the Spanish champions booking their spot in the semi-finals of the Champions League - where they will meet Liverpool - courtesy of a four-goal aggregate success.

De Gea is yet to sign a new contract with the 20-time English champions as speculation surrounding the goalkeeper's future continues to gather pace.
