Eliaquim Mangala reportedly opens talks with Lyon over a permanent move this summer, with the French club prepared to pay £18m to sign him.

Manchester City will take a huge hit by offloading defender Eliaquim Mangala to Lyon for £18m, according to a report.

The 26-year-old joined the Citizens for £42m three years ago but has struggled to make an impact, even being sent out on loan to Valencia for the 2016-17 campaign.

Valencia were unwilling to buy the France international on a permanent deal, however, meaning that City have been relying on another interested party to come forward.

It is claimed by the Daily Mail that Lyon have already started talks with Mangala, who managed just 64 appearances for City before being phased out by boss Pep Guardiola.

The report adds that Mangala, under contract at the Etihad Stadium for a further two years, will be allowed to leave for the cut-price figure should he agree personal terms.
