Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola reveals that the Citizens are "working on" a new deal for attacker Leroy Sane.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has revealed that the Citizens are "working on" a new deal for Leroy Sane.

Sane, 22, joined City from Schalke 04 in 2016 and has scored 24 times and registered 30 assists in 96 appearances for the Premier League champions in all competitions.

The German's future under Guardiola looked to be in doubt earlier this season when he was left out of City's first four Premier League matches.

Sane has been a regular in recent weeks, however, and Guardiola has now confirmed that the attacker, whose current deal runs until 2021, is in talks over an extension.

"The club are working on that. We're not going to extend the contract for one player just for recent performances. We're not going to extend the contract for Raheem [Sterling] because he scored two goals against Spain," Guardiola told reporters.

"We value the quality of the player, the human being, the relationship with the club, how settled he is in that position, if he is younger or older. So, many things are important.

"Up and down, moments better than the other ones, that's normal. To help in the bad moments, let them understand how consistent they must be in their careers to be better players.

"I said many times, it depends if you play more or less, sometimes you need one type of game, sometimes you need another type of game. Quicker, counter-attack, more control or less control. There's no doubts about the quality of Leroy."

Sane has managed one goal and three assists in 10 appearances for City this season.
