How Manchester City could line up against Sheffield United

Sports Mole looks at how Manchester City could line up for their Premier League clash with Sheffield United on Saturday afternoon.

Manchester City will be aiming to cement their position atop the Premier League rankings when they welcome Sheffield United to the Etihad Stadium for Saturday's battle.

Pep Guardiola's men produced a five-star performance to hammer West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday evening, and they have now marched to victory 11 times in a row across all competitions.

However, the Citizens had Sheffield United to thank for their position at the top as the Blades overcame Manchester United 2-1 on Wednesday, but the visitors are still rooted to the bottom of the table.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how City could line up for the visit of Chris Wilder's men.

Guardiola has no reason to fix what is not broken on Saturday, and the Spaniard should name a largely unchanged lineup despite his affinity for rotation.

However, one likely change is the return of Kyle Walker - who struck the only goal against his boyhood club in this fixture earlier in the season - and the 30-year-old should come in at right-back after shaking off a hip injury.

Joao Cancelo is in undroppable form, though, so he could be moved to the left-hand side if Walker does make an expected return, meaning that Oleksandr Zinchenko will likely drop to the bench.

Ilkay Gundogan bagged a brace against West Brom to take him up to seven for the Premier League season, and the in-form German should once again join Rodri and Bernardo Silva in the middle of the park with Kevin De Bruyne sidelined.

City have often dispatched teams with ease without a recognised striker, with the injury-plagued Sergio Aguero now fighting off a bout of coronavirus while Gabriel Jesus struggles for consistent starts at the Etihad.

Jesus and Ferran Torres will both hope to get a look-in for this match, but Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling both assisted each other at The Hawthorns and should keep their places, while Phil Foden is expected to retain his spot on the left after being hauled off early in midweek.
