Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero warns that he is currently in the best shape he has been in for years following knee surgery at the end of last season.

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has said that he is in the best shape he has been in for years following his surgery at the end of last season.

The 30-year-old underwent a knee operation which ruled him out for the opening month of the 2017-18 campaign but recovered to feature in the World Cup and has made a quick start to the 2018-19 season too.

Aguero has five goals to his name already this term - including a hat-trick in a Premier League clash with Huddersfield Town last month - and the Argentine believes that his previous knee troubles could now be behind him.

"Honestly, I feel fantastic. Dr [Ramon] Cugat did amazing work with my knee and now I don't feel any sort of discomfort," Aguero told the club's official website.

"During the past few years, I felt pains at times and when last season came to an end, we decided it would be best to start treatment. And the results were very positive.

"I'm not sure if this is the best start [to] a season for me, but it's the best I've felt in years. It shows in my game. The challenge now is keeping up this level, and I'll be working non-stop to maintain it."

Aguero is expected to start once again when Man City host Fulham at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
