A report claims that West Ham United have joined the race to sign Liverpool forward Christian Benteke.

West Ham United have reportedly joined the race to sign Liverpool forward Christian Benteke.

The Belgium international has been strongly linked with a move to Crystal Palace, who are said to have tabled a £31.5m bid for the 25-year-old, who scored 10 times in 42 appearances for the Reds last season.

However, according to The Sun, West Ham are hoping to hijack Palace's deal as the Hammers look to boost their forward line for the 2016-17 campaign.

Benteke scored 49 times in 101 games for Aston Villa between 2012 and 2015, before joining Liverpool on a long-term contract last July.
