Barcelona reportedly make initial enquiries about signing Tottenham Hotspur star Christian Eriksen as Liverpool remain unwilling to part with Philippe Coutinho.

Barcelona have reportedly made initial enquiries about signing Tottenham Hotspur star Christian Eriksen.

The Spanish outfit are currently cash-rich following the recent world-record transfer of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain for a figure of almost £200m.

Ernesto Valverde had been chasing Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho as a player to fill Neymar's offensive void, having multiple bids turned away by the Merseyside club in the process.

The Reds' stubborn stance was stressed once more this morning in a statement making clear that the Brazilian will be going nowhere this summer, prompting Barca's gaze to fall on Eriksen, according to The Independent.

The report suggests that it may take in excess of £100m to prise the Dane from the London club, who are yet to make any new signings this summer.

Eriksen, who signed a four-year contract extension last summer, scored eight goals and assisted a further 15 last season.
