Liverpool are reportedly close to signing Augsburg defender Ragnar Klavan for £4.2m.

Liverpool are reportedly on the verge of signing defender Ragnar Klavan from Augsburg.

Manager Jurgen Klopp is believed to be looking for a centre-back to provide cover due to the departure of Kolo Toure and absence of injured Mamadou Sakho.

According to Sky Sports News, the Merseyside outfit are planning to part with £4.2m plus add-ons to complete the signing of Estonia captain Klavan, who has been at Augsburg for the last four years.

Joel Matip, who joined the Reds on a free transfer this summer, will be vying for a starting spot this season, but suffered a minor foot problem during Liverpool's pre-season win over Wigan Athletic on Sunday.
