Jurgen Klopp is reportedly considering a move for River Plate and Argentina defender Gabriel Mercado after watching him play in a Copa America Centenario game against Chile.

Liverpool have expressed an interested in signing River Plate and Argentina defender Gabriel Mercado, according to reports.

The 29-year-old, who started his career with Racing Club before joining Estudiantes and then River, operates primarily as a right-back but can also play in central defence and on the right side of midfield.

According to The Mirror, Reds manager Jurgen Klopp - who was at Argentina's Copa America Centenario game against Chile on Tuesday - kept a close eye on the Albiceleste squad member.

Kolo Toure, who operates in a similar manner to Mercado, was released by Liverpool just days after Klopp's appearance at the California game.
